Life is not a Snapshot!

Spreading positive mental health awareness to students

It feels awkward to be out of the scene of blogging for about seven months and then suddenly start blogging again! Am I right to feel this way? Whatever your answer, I am convinced that blogging is an essential part of my peaceful existence. It helps me to connect with who I am at my core. It opens the window of my soul and allows me to ventilate. Sometimes, I wonder, ‘how do people survive without writing or a life journal? I think I know the answer (smiling). Not every one is designed to write.

So, how are you?

So far, my 2019 has been adventurous. I Dare To Blossom Foundation had its first Mental Health awareness outreach in Community Grammar School Macaulay,Ikorodu, I had the opportunity to shared my Bipolar survival story with District 15/16 at the Daystar Christian Center, I had the opportunity to accompany my husband to inspire young adults with the story of our martial journey at Living Faith Church, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Want to hear more? Between having to acquire an office space to run my business, going through the process of hiring and ensuring that the business is profitable, managing my home without a domestic help, being an effective mother to two children below 10 years and a great wife to my PreciousRuby, I can say that the journey has been humbling. Very humbling. It has been a learning process, a process that reminds me that life is not a snapshot. Nevertheless, I am glad I have the opportunity to embark on this path.

I remember vividly, one day, I felt so overwhelmed that I just felt like crying. But the tears would not flow. So I sat still on my bed and just stared at a portion of the wall. By the time my husband saw me, he insisted that I needed to rest. Go to sleep!

The thing about feeling overwhelmed is that it drains your energy and it can make you focus on the things that aren’t working or the disappointments, or the deadlines that hasn’t been achieved. But on the contrast, if you do not take the appropriate steps to stay inspired, you can’t deliver on your assignment. How do you overcome the feeling of 'overwhelm'?

Please recognize that sometimes, what works for me may not work for you because we are formed intricately and uniquely, we aren’t clones and so don’t feel discouraged if you try to apply an advice and you don’t get the desired result.

Here’s my personal experience.

teachers about mental wellness
  • When I feel overwhelmed, I talk to friends and loved ones. To people who really care about me. I often say, ‘why surround yourself with people who you can’t be real with? With people who do not love and appreciate you? Why??? You deserve better. Don’t settle for less. Surround yourself with people who truly love you. People who you can talk to without feeling 'prejudiced', or feeling as if you are disturbing them.
  • When I feel overwhelmed, I spend time with myself. I read. I listen to the music I love. I eat the food I crave. I buy myself something I like.
  • When I feel overwhelmed, I rest. I shut down, delegate, retreat, rest until I am re-energized.
  • When I feel overwhelmed, I say and an heart-felt prayer.
  • I meditate on God’s goodness and let gratitude fill my heart.
